Hakushin Jiu-Jitsu is championed by Sensei Eric Enger and Sensei Teresa Enger. I have enjoyed every class that I have been to. I said to myself why? I believe it is because Eric and Teresa create an atmosphere best suited for learning; an open and relaxed one. Sensei Eric is an excellent instructor as he is very knowledgeable in the martial arts, but more importantly he communicates that knowledge to his students and conveys not only, the moves but also the concepts behind the moves. In addition, Sensei Eric is open to different techniques and is constantly examining and questioning the curriculum rather than getting bogged down in traditional ways. At the same time, he conveys to his students the importance of respect for tradition. Both Sensei's also keep the classes interesting by changing up each class so it is not dull and repetitive but they still use enough class time to practice "basic's". It is obvious that they use a well-thought out and enjoyable curriculum. I always look forward to training and appreciate the encouragement I get, because it is given in a positive manner. My confidence as a Federal Correctional Officer has also increase as a result of training at Hakushin Jiu-Jitsu. I now possess the knowledge and ability to handle situations with inmates should the need for physical confrontation arise. Which leads me to another attractive point about Sensei Eric's school, he teaches that communication is your first and strongest attack and when violence is necessary he tailors his techniques for those of us in the security field. And encourages proper use of force.

In 1998 I invited Eric Enger-sensei and Teresa Enger-sensei to attend the E6 International Martial Arts course held in Beckton, London E6 England. When I first met both Enger-sensei I felt them to be warm individuals who understood etiquette, discipline and respect - the vital qualities that allow us to progress in our given arts. On the first day of the course, I was busy teaching and organizing various aspects of the course, and didn't notice too much how they were doing or what they were teaching. However, several of my most senior students (including a 7th Dan) said to me, "you should take a look at both of them - they have some good stuff that they are putting over in a good manner." Later that day I observed from a quiet corner and was pleased that I could see two very good teachers indeed.
-I believe that they will both excel in their arts and would not hesitate to invite them to teach in England again. Indeed, I would now say they are friends of mine and I look forward to seeing them again.

It is my opinion that any one who is interested in learning effective, street oriented martial arts will find Eric*s class well suited for them. The techniques that Eric teaches will give a smaller person the advantage they need to defeat a larger more aggressive attacker. This is truly the nature of self - defence.
-The fact that this is done in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere makes Eric's class truly unique. I hope that anyone looking for this kind of training will try a class. You will not be disappointed.

Sensei Eric Enger is more than a sensei; he is a mentor. He takes the martial art of Jiu-Jitsu and teaches it in a way that not only respects the tradition of the art, but also respects modern-day weapons and how to defend not-so-traditional attacks. It is comforting to know that I am learning how to defend myself against all sorts of attackers and all sorts of attacks. I feel confident knowing that I have the skills to defend myself if needed, but also have been taught the most important part of self-defense: avoiding potentially dangerous situations in the first place.

Eric is a gifted and knowledgeable instructor. His teaching methods are fresh, he is an effective communicator, and he creates a great learning environment. Eric's instruction has boosted my confidence, and helped me feel more safe while performing my enforcement duties as a Provincial Park Security Officer.

Enger sensei's...it was my pleasure to participate in your recent seminar held in Victoria. A sentiment echoed by all that attended. The group, advanced strikers with limited grappling experience, really appreciated your tailoring of the techniques to flow from their strengths. The lighter framed participants also appreciated the focus on technique as opposed to muscling through maneuvers. The phrase "position before submission" will be remembered by all, I am sure. As you know several participants are serving police officers, both front line and supervisory. In this litigious age we regularly face questions concerning use of force. Several of the joint locks and come-a -long techniques you taught will prove useful on the street as compliance can be gained through minimal force application. The seminar was a job well done by you both and I look forward to scheduling at least two more in the near future as I have already received more requests than can be accommodated in a single session. It was also a pleasure to see the smooth working relationship between your "uke" Wade, and yourselves. Should the need arise please don't hesitate to use me as a reference for Hakushin Jiu-Jitsu. Best regards to you both.
